Haiti Cholera Fears After Hurricane Strikes

Seven people have died in flooding and mudslides after Hurricane Tomas lashed camps for earthquake survivors and coastal towns in Haiti.

Aid workers fear the floods could lead to further outbreaks of cholera in the camps, set up after a major tremor on January 12 devastated the Caribbean nation.
Haitian authorities, already struggling with the aftermath of the earthquake and a subsequent cholera outbreak, believed the worst from Tomas was over.
But meteorologists warned of more rain for parts of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the Turks and Caicos.
Four people died in Haiti's southwestern province of Grande Anse, two in South province and one at Belle Anse in south-east province.

The weather pattern could still pose a danger for Haiti
Flooding was reported in the coastal towns of Les Cayes, Jacmel and Leogane.
In capital Port-au-Prince, still scarred by the earthquake that killed 250,000 people, hundreds of thousands of homeless survivors huddled under tent and tarpaulin shelters.
The United Nations and relief agencies have gone on maximum alert to prepare for the possibility of another humanitarian catastrophe in the western hemisphere's poorest nation.
The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the storm could have dealt a far worse blow.
"We have been incredibly lucky," OCHA spokeswoman Imogen Wall said, while noting that "the flooding is still serious, particularly in Leogane, because of the cholera situation".
The UN said the storm will almost certainly exacerbate the epidemic that has killed 442 people and sickened more than 6,700 so far.

Zab Judah holds off previously unbeaten Lucas Matthysse in controversial split decision

It was all Zab Judah through the first six rounds and too much Lucas Matthysse in the last six. But Judah was able to weather the late storm and hold on for a 12-round split decision in a junior welterweight title elimination bout before 4,172 fans Saturday night at the Rock in Newark.
The victory helps Judah (40-6, 27 KOs) bolster his campaign to return to the championship ranks in the 140-pound division. He hasn't held a title since he lost the undisputed welterweight crown to Carlos Baldomir in 2006.
Even the judges had a tough time scoring this one. Judge Waleska Poldan scored it 114-113 for Matthysse and judges Joseph Pasquale and Hilton Whitaker scored it 114-113 for Judah. The Daily News scored it 114-113 for Judah.
"I won the fight," Matthysse said. "This is a bad decision. I was undefeated when I came here. This kind of loss hurts boxing. Zab never hurt me. I closed the championship rounds. What more do they want? I clearly won. This must be because we're in his backyard."
Judah, 33, had fought at the Rock on July 16, defeating an overmatched Jose Santa Cruz on a third-round TKO.
Because of his KO power, Matthysse (27-1, 25 KOs) promised to offer a little more resistance than Santa Cruz.
It was the perfect test for Judah, a former undisputed welterweight champion who has moved back down to the junior welterweight division, where he won his first world title back in 2000. Going into the fight, the thinking on the part of his promoters at Main Events was that if Judah could handle what Matthysse was going to throw at him, then he would be able to weather whatever could come from the boxers at the upper echelon of the 140-pound division - the most talent-rich division in boxing.
The feeling-out process went on much too long, as both men seem to give a tremendous amount of respect to the other. Judah respected Matthysse's power and Matthysse respected Judah's speed and power.
Judah caught Matthysse with a big uppercut in the second round and Matthysse smiled and poked his own chin as if to say that it was sturdy enough to take anything that Judah could land on it.
The crowd was restless and booed on occasions because there wasn't much action. But Judah, a southpaw, was the more polished boxer and he pressed those skills to his advantage, doubling up on his jab and giving Matthysse the kind of lateral movement that big power punchers hate.
During a clinch in the sixth round, Judah found time to chat with Roy Jones Jr., who was sitting just below the ring apron as part of the HBO broadcast team.

Daylight savings time 2010 ends today: fall back time change 2010 comes here

Daylight savings time 2010 ends today: fall back time change 2010 comes here. So we are going back one hour once again beginning today as daylight saving time ends today. This is something that seem to be very disturbing for many people, but notwithstanding its nonsensical origin for many people, it is a fact of life in this part of the world and so we are going to have one hour more of night and have more time to dream.

But to me it looks really ridiculous as I don’t understand the reason for changing my time twice a year. And every time when it is change time many people tend to forget to change their clocks forward or backward.

There are many people who say that this is a great thing as it allows more time to not just save energy but mentally allow people to plan their days.

Though it is said that from historic facts it is established that among many civilizations it was a part of their monthly chores and that they followed it religiously. Some give the example of Romans who used to change their clocks not on yearly basis but on monthly basis.

But in my view this was something that should have changed with time, but we seem to be stuck in history.

Amber Dubois - Who is Amber Dubois?

Amber Dubois
Amber Dubois - Do you know Amber Dubois? Who is Amber Dubois? She's on the top list of the most searched keyword. Let us know more about Amber Dubois.

Amber Dubois is a 14-year-old girl, she disappeared on February, 13, 2009. She stood 5-foot-4 inches, and weighs 130 lbs. Amber Dubois was last seen heading to school at 7:10 a.m., with a $200 check in hand to purchase a lamb for her 4-H project.

The skeletal remains of Amber has been found in a rural area of northern San Diego County.

"The discovery was made in the early morning hours Saturday in a very rugged and remote area of Pala," Escondido Police Chief Jim Maher told reporters at a brief press conference Sunday afternoon. "Escondido police and sheriff's homicide detectives were following a lead in the case when they made the discovery."

Her body was identified Saturday afternoon through dental records, and detectives notified Dubois's parents Saturday evening.

Daylight debate

The Great recession. Our vitamin D deficiency. The obesity epidemic. all are cited in the surprisingly fiery debate over daylight saving time. when did the clock get so controversial?

If you went about your morning blissfully unaware that daylight saving time ended Saturday night, don't worry. You're not alone. The world seems to be increasingly vexed by the practice.
From Britain to Japan to Saskatchewan, debates over daylight saving time have gotten fiery. And no longer is the conversation centred around an extra hour of sleep-in time. Economic growth, mental health and even obesity are figuring into the debate.
How did something as simple as making summer evenings a little longer come to this? Blame the U.S. government, for starters. In 2007, the U.S. adjusted the dates of daylight saving time to extend longer into the fall in an effort to save energy by staving off darkness for a little while longer. Canada followed suit (hence Calgary's bright Halloweens of late), which seemed to kick off a renewed debate about the issue.
Japan, which ditched daylight saving time as soon as Gen. Douglas MacArthur and the American occupation left Tokyo in 1951, is now mulling it again. John Alkire of Morgan Stanley believes that adopting daylight saving time would mean a new dawn for the Japanese economy. One extra hour of sunlight every evening for seven months would boost domestic consumption, as people leave work for bars, restaurants, shopping and golf. Setting the clock ahead one hour in the summer is credited with reducing traffic accidents and crime; boosting energy efficiency as people use less lighting and heating; and even improving health as people are radiated with vitamin D from the sun.
"The best part is that it doesn't cost anything," says Alkire. "It's a real fiscal stimulus without any money."
Adopting daylight saving time would increase Japan's GDP by more than $15 billion US annually, according to the Dai-Ichi Life Research Institute. The Japan Productivity Center, another research outfit, reckons it could generate 100,000 jobs.
Public approval for DST is growing, from 40 per cent in the 1990s to around 60 per cent today. Heizo Takenaka, a former cabinet minister, says it nearly passed in 2005, but fell victim to bureaucratic infighting.
Sound familiar? Our neighbours in Saskatchewan have been having a similar debate for decades. Saskatchewan is one of the few northern jurisdictions in the world that does not observe daylight saving time. In 2007, Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall suggested it was time his province vote on the question, but that has yet to happen.
That doesn't mean the debate has gone away. A Facebook group called Lets Get Daylight Savings Time for Saskatchewan has gathered nearly 250 fans, and a raging debate. Scott Giroux, who is one of the operators of the Facebook site, has a handful of reasons to support daylight saving time, including his inability to squeeze in 18 holes of golf after work before it gets dark.
"It seems pretty clear that our society is moving more toward increasing obesity by the day. If physical activity will increase with (daylight saving time), I think it's a no-brainer," he says.
The advantages to health are also one of the reasons cited by scientists urging governments in Britain and Russia to adopt daylight saving time all year long.
"It must be rare to find a means of vastly improving the health and well-being of nearly everyone in the population -- and at no cost," said Mayer Hillman of the Policy Studies Institute in Britain, where a bill on daylight saving time is coming up for consideration in parliament soon. "And here we have it."
Hillman conducted a study focused on Scotland, the northern-most part of Britain, which found that switching would give most adults 300 extra hours of daylight a year. A "lighter later" campaign in Britain has gained support from many of the country's major sporting bodies.
Writing in the British Medical Journal, Hillman said research shows people feel happier, more energetic and have lower sickness rates in the longer, brighter days of summer, whereas moods and health decline during duller days of winter.
Robert Graham of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York said leaving clocks alone in winter could help combat high rates of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity, which are caused in part by lack of exercise.
"As a society we are always looking for accessible, low cost, little-to-no harm interventions," he said. "By not putting the clocks back and increasing the number of accessible daylight hours, we may have found the perfect one."
There is still some question about the real energy savings that comes from extending daylight. A study published earlier this year found that advancing clocks by an hour in the winter would lead to energy savings of at least 0.3 per cent of daily demand in Britain.
That may not sound like much, but Elizabeth Garnsey, one of the study's authors and an expert in innovative studies at Cambridge University, said this was equivalent to saving 450,000 tonnes of CO2 during winter alone.
Among all these big questions, there is still room in the debate for perspective, such as that offered by a user (one suspects he's an Albertan) on the Lets Get Daylight Savings Time for Saskatchewan Facebook site, who suggested one reason the province is out of step with the rest of the country is this: "(Saskatchewanians don't) understand how to change their electronic clocks in their cars and on their stoves and stuff, so they just keep the time the same all through the year."

University of Utah Football: Utes Trail by 23 at Halftime

University of Utah Football:
Up until now, three non-BCS conference schools have been in the discussion regarding the BCS National Championship.
TCU, Boise State and Utah were all undefeated heading into this week of college football, and all of them found themselves in the top five of the BCS rankings.
But today, one of these undefeated teams will have to take a loss.
And it looks like that team is the University of Utah Utes as they trail the TCU Horned Frogs by 23 points in the first half.
TCU has been widely recognized as one of the strongest defenses in college football, but it looks like the Frogs' offense isn't too shabby either.
Perhaps the Utes will work a little halftime magic and pull off the comeback...
But right now TCU looks like one of the best teams in the country.

Breeders Cup 2010: Latest Zenyatta Breeders Cup 2010 Results and Entries

Breeders Cup 2010: Breeders Cup 2010 Latest Entries and Picks Results – Apparently, everyone now is talking about Zenyatta, the mare who is running the last race of her career at the Breeders Cup 2010. She is favored to win the race, largely because she has NEVER lost in her career yet, and it’s her 20th race.
Everyone was so amazed after knowing that no other horses has ever racked up 19 consecutive wins, and it seems doubtful that any other horses can do that anytime soon. Furthermore, Zenyatta has been that much more impressive because she is a mare and has beat male in the races where usually female horses cannot compete.

Meanwhile, Jockeys Calvin Borel and Javier Castellano traded punches after Castellano made an abrupt move on the racetrack Jockey Calvin Borel leaned toward Javier Castellano, pointed, and just like that, the winner’s circle at the Breeders’ Cup morphed into a boxing ring.
The three-time Kentucky Derby winner Borel and Castellano tussled at Churchill Downs just moments after tangling during the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon in an ugly, chaotic scene that left Castellano shaken and Borel pleading with security officials to let him go so he could “kill” his rival.
Apparently, the incident may have been the most entertaining moment of the night for European horse racing fanatics who will be disappointed that they could not land a blow on the first day of the meeting.  Midday was the closest Europe came to a victory on Friday as the heavily backed Henry Cecil raider was just denied by Filly And Mare Turf outsider Shared Account.
The Breeders Cup 2010 horse race will continue until Saturday. The race will have a kick off time of 6:30pm ET and will have a live coverage via ESPN. You can catch your favourite horses now as they take action at the horsing race field.
